Adding to Phi Psi’s Little 500 lore, Steve Tesich (’42-’96), writer of the Academy Award winning "Breaking Away", is also an alumnus of the fraternity.

The Indiana University chapter of Phi Kappa Psi (Indiana Beta) was founded on May 15, 1869. Since that time, "Phi Psi" has enjoyed its status as one of the most prominent fraternity chapters on campus. Our chapter is also the largest in the country, with over 2,500 members initiated.

In addition to our Little 500 performances, our fraternity’s athletic prowess is also evidenced by many alumni who have excelled in sports beyond college, including 7-time Olympic Gold medal
winner, Mark Spitz.

Academic excellence is just as important to us as athletics. Our chapter has produced more Rhodes Scholars than any other fraternity chapter at Indiana University and more than any other single chapter of the national Fraternity. Alumni have excelled in the business world across the globe and give back thousands of dollars annually in academic-based scholarships.
